WELCOME TO THE DORSET RECLAIMED WOOD SHOP WEB SITE!
The Wood Shop is brand new venture by Dorset
Reclaim with help from partners the Borough of Poole and Dorset Probation
Trust. Dorset Reclaim is a registered charity with depots based in Bournemouth,
Poole and Dorchester, operating a furniture re-use project offering electrical
and household goods, donated from local people & businesses, to households
on low incomes. With help, this work has been expanded and the Wood Shop
created.
The Wood Shop is a wood recycling project which creates new products from
wood that would otherwise go to landfill, thus recycling old wood into
new and useful products. We are made up of different elements - a wood
workshop, a timber merchant, a local charity specialising in re-use, and
a place with interesting and creative volunteering opportunities.
The new project is managed by existing Dorset Reclaim staff, with everything
produced by a wide variety of talented volunteers, some of whom will have
been referred by the Community Payback Team. All gain an opportunity
to learn something new, become part of a team, perhaps obtain work experience
or pass their skills on to others.
Products the
work shop creates vary from bird tables to planters, fencing to furniture
and even a set of full size stocks! There are a number of different products
we can create using the wood that is collected, the range on offer will
vary, as will the clean timber, so please keep checking our web site for
news or simply telephone us for help. We can also offer a more personal
service, such as making items to order or simply repairing a garden bench.
The wood we
use is collected from the Borough of Poole amenity site, as well as from
local businesses and building sites across Dorset – usually clean
surplus wood, old pallets and other unwanted offcuts which can then be
reworked into useful items.
We all know that recycling is good for the
environment, but re-use is even better. Even recycling consumes energy
that simply re-using avoids. The Wood Shop avoids wasting wood by either
producing hand made items for sale to the local community, using lesser
quality or short lengths to produce kindling, or selling on clean wood
at low cost for your own DIY, garden or allotment projects.
